They lead the way.
MARCUS, THE SALES EXPERT
I worked on the bestseller by Marcus Sheridan, They Ask, You Answer, a book which is widely considered to be one of the seminal books on sales. Marcus was a wonderful client and it made me very happy to see his book do so well.
MIKE, THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE
Michael S. Ward, was an auto industry executive who wrote about all he had learned during his twenty years' experience doing business in China. His book: How I Ate a Live Scorpion and Survived Twenty Years of Doing Business in China. I came up with the title, which proved to be quite popular.
Mike was an Oklahoma businessman who flew into the Burbank Airport wearing a big cowboy hat, came across the street to meet me at the Marriott, and crossed the street and flew back home after hiring me. He was a great character. (By the way, he really did have to eat a live scorpion at a business meeting in China in order to save face for his hosts! It's quite a story.)
BILL, THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OWNER AND EXPERT WITNESS
Bill was a longtime construction company owner who later used his
expertise in construction to build a thriving business as an expert witness. His book: The Straight Truth: The Life of an Expert Witness. In its pages, Bill reveals the secrets to turning a lifetime of experience in any field into an entirely new career as an expert witness.
They survive and thrive.
LORENZO, THE GANGSTER TURNED BUSINESS OWNER
Lorenzo got off to a rough start on the streets of Chicago. His circumstances naturally led him into gangster life, where he became a leader and then a prison inmate. Lorenzo had a spiritual experience while incarcerated and, after his release, he went on to found a nonprofit helping ex-offenders transition into society. His nonprofit was supported, ironically, by the DOJ, the very same government department that incarcerated him. Today, he is a thriving business owner. His book: A Soldier's Redemption--the Life of Gangster Shorty G.
SHELLY, THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE AND TRAUMA SURVIVOR
An executive in the healthcare industry, Shelly enjoyed a long, happy marriage and family life with two wonderful children. Then a shocking discovery led to the demise of her marriage, followed soon thereafter by the traumatic, eerie, and shocking death of her ex-husband. Her journey to recovery, as chronicled in her award-winning book, Final Drive, is an inspiring tale that is truly stranger than fiction.
JASON, THE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY SURVIVOR
Jason's book, aptly titled One Man's Love Story, takes us from the tragic and terrible car accident that took the life of his best friend and nearly ended his, all the way through his remarkable recovery--but it doesn't end there. Jason did more than recover. He became an enduring example of living every day as if it were our last, and living from a place of love.
They overcome great odds.
MICHELLE, THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER & BARRY THE TRUCK DRIVER, who live and WORK WITH SCHIZOID AFFECTIVE DISORDER
I learned so much from working on these two books. Both Michelle and Barry live and work with serious mental illnesses. I was awed by the courage and vulnerability it took for them to share such personal stories and reveal the incredible odds they have to overcome on a daily basis, just to live and work and do the things the rest of us take for granted. Both of their books are riveting reads. Barry's book: The Life of a Telepathic Icon. Michelle's book: My Black Box: Flights of Bipolar. Both clients continue to inspire me to this day.
They achieve greatness and inspire.
debra, the triathlete mom
Debra makes time to pursue her path as an elite athlete, joining other triathlete moms on the track, on the bike seat, and in the water in Trimom: Swimming, Biking, and Running through Motherhood. Inspiring and motivating, this true life story of a surgeon's wife and mother of two reminds us all that it takes dedication and discipline to live our best life.
CARLTON, THE RENOWNED DANCER, ACTOR, AND CHOREOGRAPHER
In Front & Center: How I Learned to Live There, Carlton shares his painful and inspiring path from an abused youth to a renowned dancer, actor, choreographer, and public speaker. Along the way, his faith and fortitude breed resilience in him and he comes out the other side a shining star.
They protect and serve.
Eric, the U.S. GOV'T. SPECIAL AGENT & DIMPLOMAT (RET.)
Following in his policeman father's footsteps, Eric pursued a long, decorated career in law enforcement. While serving as a special agent on several high-profile cases, he identified the greatest asset any agent can cultivate in themselves--the capacity to remain switched on at all times. In his book, Switched On: The Heart and Mind of a Special Agent, Eric teaches all of us his superpower and demonstrates how it can save our lives and possibly the lives of others. He also shares how he overcame the loss of both his twin brother and his father without letting those losses destroy or define him.
MiCHAEL, the boxer-cop with a heart of gold
Following in his policeman father's footsteps, as well, Philadelphia-based Michael was destined for a life in law enforcement. Growing up in an era and a neighborhood where his world revolved around the corner he and his crew claimed as their own, he had to be tough. Then Michael discovered boxing. In The Last Neighborhood, he takes us on a heartfelt journey through the streets of Philly and the world of boxing we won't soon forget.
MIKE, THE SHERIFF's DETECTIVE AND WHISTLEBLOWER
Mike was a born law enforcement officer and he was dedicated to the Sheriff's Department. But when this sheriff's detective uncovered internal corruption, he was faced with a moral dilemma he could not ignore. Not constitutionally capable of looking the other way, Mike did the only thing he felt he could do--blow the whistle. His award-winning book, Defiant Valor: A Whistleblower's Fight for Survival, is a compelling page-turner, chronicling the author's survival in the face of great oppression and betrayal.
